As we continue to celebrate International Paramedics Day to honour the difference they make, we spoke to newly qualified paramedic Amy Baggaley.
Amy has worked from EMAS since 2016, joining us in our control room as an Emergency Medical Advisor before working her way towards being an ambulance technician, responding to patients out on the road.
As a newly qualified paramedic, Amy gives us an insight into what her life in her latest role at EMAS is all about.
Amy said: “Being a paramedic is a privileged position.
“We enter people's lives and homes during their personal crises, often in heightened and stressful situations. Being allowed into someone's home at such times and being held in high respect by our patients makes me incredibly proud.
“This respect is a testament to the hard work and caring nature of my fellow clinicians at EMAS, who have established and continually uphold a reputation for providing excellent patient care.”
Amy explains what helped her to stay motivated to making a difference to her patients as she studied to progress from ambulance technician to fully qualified paramedic, adding:
“I take great pride in providing kind and competent care, which even if it’s made a difference to just one person on my shift, continually motivates me to keep going.”
